I am unable to get updates for SEO Studio, when I am using Charter cable broadband connection.

The most likely reason is the Charter Security Suite Controls. In order to disable these controls and allow SEO Studio to download update you have follow these steps.

1. Open the Charter Security Suite and
2. Click on Parental Control and
3. Click on disable Parental Control on the top right corner.

I've submitted my site to all of the search engines listed in SEO Studio a few days ago, but I do not see my site on the search engines. What's wrong?
Once the submission process is completed by SEO Studio, your web site is in the list of web sites to crawl or index. For most search engines it's enough to submit the root level domain instead of individual web pages. The actual inclusion of the submitted web site in the search engines' database could take anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months.

How can I move SEO Studio to a new computer? Is this possible and what is the best way to do it?

The simplest way to do this to install SEO Studio on the new computer first using this link here. Once you have installed SEO Studio copy the complete data folder from the old SEO Studio installation at this path C:\Program Files\SEO Studio\Data overwriting the folder at the new location.
Be sure to place these files in the same directory on the new computer as they were in on the old one. We recommend copying the complete SEO Studio data directory to your new PC where you will install SEO Studio.

All your SEO Studio profiles, reports and license information is stored at this location. This ensure there will be no loss of data. You should double check everything is working the way it should before deleting the old SEO Studio folder.

I am getting and Activex error, how do I fix this?

There is a registry permission issue on your Vista PC that prevents certain SEO Studio components from working correctly. Please follow the instructions below to allow permission to the registry before reinstalling SEO Studio.

Step 1) Download the Subinacl.msi program from Microsoft's website:

Step 2) Copy the following text in a .bat or . cmd file and run it with administrative credentials. It may take a while to finish. You will get a "Press any key to continue" message once it completes:

Step 3) Reinstal SEO Studio, you should not see any Activex errors after starting up SEO Studio.

After installing SEO Studio on Vista I get an error the DHTMLED control is not registered properly

Windows Vista and Windows 7 does not include the dhtmled.ocx that is used by SEO Studio and the applications that use this control should be migrated to use a new HTML editing component.

When installing SEO Studio on Vista Ultimate 32bit, I receive an error: Fatal Error - Installation ended prematurely because of an error.

The issue has to do with the Visual Basic script run time files are not properly registered.

The problem can be resolved in two ways.

Resolution 1

Launch the SEO Studio installer in "Passive" mode.

First, find the SEO Studio installer file from the "Run" command by browsing to find the SEO Studio.exe installer file you have downloaded from our site.

- Double-click on the installer file and it will add the installation file to the 'command line' including the path to the installer file.

- Then  type " /passive" after whatever it fills in like the illustration below. Please note the quotes are needed around the file path.
Example: "C:\Seo Studio.exe" /passive 

Resolution 2

Open the RUN menu or command prompt and enter this from a command line:

regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\vbscript.dll

The UAC (User Account Control)  may need to be turned off to register the vbscript.dll correctly, so if the process hangs or does not work, try to disable UAC and then try to register it again.
To disable the UAC (User Account Control) go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Turn User Account Control on or off and make sure that the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer option is unchecked and press OK.

At this point you should be able to install SEO Studio without any errors.

The SEO Studio installer gets triggered when Microsoft Office applications are accessed.

When SEO Studio starts it triggers the Windows Installer in addition a dialog window opens and asks for the Microsoft Office CD or installation source to install some missing components.
If you cancel the update, SEO Studio seems to work ok and runs fine, but every time you start SEO Studio, you get the same Microsoft Office installation prompts.

The solution can be found in a Microsoft support article titled “Windows Installer starts and prompts for the Office 2000 source when you access the Dynamic HTML (DHTML) Edit control”

The short answer to resolve this issue is to configure the Microsoft Office installation to set the HTML Source Editing feature to either Not Installed or Run from My Computer.

How do I get SEO Studio Uninstalled? I get a dialog box that says the installed product does not match the installation source.

When you are trying to remove SEO Studio using the Add/Remove dialog you may get the following message "The installed product does not match the installation source"

Sometimes the cached copy of the SEO Studio installation gets corrupted. You can remove registry entries left behind by the SEO Studio installer using a Microsoft utility called the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility-MSIZap. Please download it from here http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe. You can find more information about the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility on this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.

Once you have installed MSIZap program, double click on the msicuu.exe program and search for SEO Studio in the list of installed programs. Select the SEO Studio entry and click on Remove.

Now you are ready to install a fresh copy of SEO Studio from our website located here.

How often should we submit our web site to the search engines?
You should repeat the submission process at least once every two months or sooner if you have added substantial number of new web pages, or content to your web site. Over submitting to search engine can be considered spamming, to avoid this check your SEO Studio submission reports, or do a quick check by selecting the search engine from the submission tool list and the previous submission dates will be automatically displayed.

How often is the search engine database updated?
We constantly monitor the search engines for any changes in their submission and search query result pages used by the SEO Studio ranking tool. We will send automatic updates when changes are necessary to keep SEO Studio operating trouble free. If you are able to use the SEO Studio Ranking Tool to find your web site ranking based on specific keywords you have targeted it means you have completed some of the basic optimization steps. Search engine optimization is an iterative process, which involves looking at what optimization techniques that work for web sites with high rankings and using those as your guidelines when optimizing your own pages. Can I set up the program once, and have it submit or rank without my being there?

Once I submit my site will I start being inundated with unsolicited emails?
Some of the search engines SEO Studio submits to might send you email notifications of the submission results. Although we can't guarantee you will not receive unsolicited emails from the search engine we submit to, it's a prudent practice to input an email address on the Submission tool setup form that can filter spam emails. You can also input our own email address trash@trendmx.com, if you don't wish to see any responses from the search engines. Please note, if you use our own email address trash@trendmx.com as filter for spam mail from search engines, you may not be listed if confirmations are required from any of the search engines you have selected to submit to.

Will submitting my site guarantee it will be listed on the top of the search engines?
Unfortunately achieving top ranking by submitting your web site to the search engines is not enough. Submitting your web site to search engine is an important step, but by no means the only step in achieving high ranking on search engines. Optimizing your web pages and exchanging links with quality web sites is a never ending process. SEO Studio can help you with your optimization efforts. I have pages within the site, which I do not want submitted to the search engines.
In order to exclude specific web pages getting into the database of search engines crawling your web site, you need to create a robot.txt file on your root level domain directory and include specific instruction in your ROBOT META tag. What pages do search engine spiders have trouble following?
In general any URL with a question mark or a session ID in it (a query string) can be considered search engine unfriendly as a most of them will refuse to index addresses with a query string or session IDs in them.
You can easily check which pages had been indexed by the search engines with the Links Plus find Indexed Pages search tool.

I don't get any results displayed when I check for indexed pages by search engines.
The most likely reason is the Link Plus advanced options are set not to display duplicate domains or internal pages. Please remove the checkmark from the "Exclude internal links from search results" and "Exclude duplicate domains".

How can I import existing link partner links and create link pages in Links Plus+

In order to import the link partners into the SEO Studio Links Plus+ tool you have two options.

• You can create a text file with the link partner URLs, emails and contact names
• Simply copy and paste the list from the clipboard.

The format of the text file or the clipboard data format should be as follows (Please note the fields are separated with commas):
Link Partner URL where your link is placed, Partner email address, Partner contact name

Once you have successfully imported the list, you need to create some main and sub categories for you link partners. For a list of about 150 link partners you should create a minimum of 5 main and 5 subcategories.
Keep in mind as your list grows and you want to maintain no more than 50 link partners per link page you may need additional categories, but for now 5 main and sub categories will do.

Now it's time to select a template page that will be used to output the list of link partners. You may want to take a copy of your website's index page and remove all the text in the middle of the page, clearing the space for the link partner list.

A simple illustration below displays what your template page should look like prior to outputting the list of link partners.(This illustration is available in the SEO Studio help file as well).
As you can see we have inserted variables enclosed in "%" marks to let Links Plus+ know where to insert category names and the actual link partner links (%LinkPagesData%) .

To help the search engine rank your resource pages higher for related keyword terms, the link pages will have their unique title and meta keywords and descriptions extracted from the main and sub category names.

For example if you have created a main category called Web Master Resources and as sub category called Web Hosting, the title of the link page will become "Web Master Resources - Web Hosting".

Now it's time to select the Output Format options in the Link Pages Creation dialog. Checkmark the Group by Categories and Group by Sub Categories options and also checkmark the Create Separate Pages checkbox.
This last options will organize link pages based on your main and sub category assignments into separate pages. The number of links per pages will match the number of link partners you have assigned to unique main and sub categories.

What steps does SEO Studio take to avoid spamming the engines?
In order to comply with Google's terms of service agreement we have introduced the Google API method to search for link partners in Links Plus+. Soon we'll be adding the Google API search option to our Ranking and Top 10 Ranking Spy tools. We also have included options in the SEO Studio application to set the limit of the number of simultaneous connections. The default is 1, this will allow more time between each search engine query while SEO Studio completes the processing of the retrieved pages. The SEO Studio Ranking Tool will also alternate between different search engines when more than 1 keyword phrase, and search engine is used.

What is considered a top search engine position?
If your web pages appear on the first page of any search engine for specific keywords you target, your page will be considered a top-ranking page. Search engines generally display the first 10 query results on a page. However, there are many which display the first 15, or 20, therefore top-ranking could be considered the top twenty positions.

How do search engines determine rankings?
If anyone in the public would know the exact answer to this question there would not be a need for software tools like SEO Studio. However the truth is only the programmers of the search engines' ranking algorithms know the answer. We know from experience and looking at top ranking web pages, the title tag, and visible content on the web page has a great influence on how web pages are ranked. In addition to content analysis most search engine also take into consideration inbound links or otherwise known as link popularity.

When I start SEO Studio, the Microsoft Office Installer starts up, how do I fix this?

Microsoft set the default option for the HTML Editing Component to install on first use of Microsoft Office instead of "Run from my computer" even though the component is already installed in Internet Explorer and Windows.

• You can change the setting by selecting Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and then click on Microsoft Office edition you have installed and select change.Select Add or Remove Features in the Maintenance Mode window.
• Select Office Tools>HTML Source Editing>Run from my computer. Then click update now in the lower right corner.
• If you are unable to save these changes, select "Unavailable" instead for the HTML Source Editing.
